Speaking of Divestment in Sudan
According to www.sudancampaign.com , the State Universities Retirement System of Illinois (SURSI) has $320,141,952.39 invested in companies doing business with Sudan, 31 companies. The Illinois State Board of Investment (ISBI) has $367,959,957.00 invested, 27 companies. The Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) has $97,249,859.92 invested, 11 companies. The Illinois State Teachers' Retirement System (ISTRS) has $727,155,649.53 invested, 32 companies. The Chicago Policemen's Annuity and Benefit Fund (CPABF) has $53,490,804.80 invested, 17 companies. The Public School Teachers Pension & Retirement Fund of Chicago (PSTPRF) has $576,543,875.83 invested, 19 companies.
This website also stated: "Over $91.2 billion of our American dollars are being invested by over 100 of America’s most prominent public pension funds in large, publicly-traded companies that are propping up Khartoum’s murderous regime that has killed more than 35,000 black Muslim Sudanese this year alone and who will be responsible for the deaths of 350,000 more of these innocent men, women and children if we, the people, do not act. We pressed for divestment with the South African government years ago when it imposed apartheid. We should press the organizations above to divest from those companies that do business in Sudan.
