Yet Another Letter to the Defender - Condoleezza, What You Be Doin'?

December 26, 2002

Dear Editor:

Newsmax.com reported recently that the Neil Rogers Show in Miami Beach, Florida played regularly the following lyrics to the music of the Nat King Cole classic “Mona Lisa” in a parody of Black National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice:

"Condoleezza, Condoleezza, what you be doin'? That neo-facist black-haired token schwarze (German for black) dog.

"Is you there 'cause you a high-toned public Negro? Is you their black-haired answer-mammy who be smart? Does they like how you shine their shoes, Condoleezza? Or the way you wash and park the whitey's cars.

"Georgie junior says he trusts you, Condoleezza. Who said our [unintelligible] off the greedy oil woes. But then he make you clean all the White House bathrooms. The public sink, the toilet and let's scrub the floors.”

I may not agree with everything that Condi Rice believes, but can those insulting lyrics, played on a white radio program, be ignored? Am I angry? You bet I’m angry! This show and the radio stations that played it got away with it.

I have not heard one peep of public condemnation of these obviously racist comments. Where is the outrage? I heard silence. Was the NAACP or any other civil rights organization notified of that defamation of Dr. Rice’s character? Were other media outlets contacted? Racist comments seem to make headline news these days, even the word “niggardly” (which has nothing to do with race at all). However, this story was very underreported in the media. Is the lack of media coverage by mistake or by design? Is it because Condi Rice, probably the most powerful woman in the world, belongs to the Republican Party? Therefore for Whites to make racist attacks against Blacks in the Republican Party but not permitted for anyone else. That radio show got away with it. Silence is consent and silence is approval. And consenting and approving that racist garbage only shows the true character of those who stay silent about it. Blacks who approve of that moronic rhetoric only degrade themselves. They laugh at same racist labels that were tailor-made for them too.
