Are you worried about losing your job? Is your company scaling back on production? Are there rumblings about layoffs in your company's future? is your company contemplating scaling back insurance coverage as a cost-saving measure? Have you been advised that there will not be a raise in your immediate future?
Whose fault is it when American companies fall on hard times? Whose fault is it when American companies close factories and move to third world countries? Is it George Bush's fault? Is it Congress' fault? Is it your fault? Check the following points. The answer might surprise you.
1. What model car do you drive? Is it a Chevy, Ford, Chrysler, Mercury, Dodge or Pontiac...or is it a Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, Lexus, Acura, BMW or Mercedes? If you drive a car made anywhere other than in the United States, you contributed to the termination of hundreds of auto workers in the United States, and by extension as the dollars those workers would have earned and placed into the economy did not happen, other Americans who were supported by those dollars, also lost their jobs.
2. Do you shop at Wal-Mart because you save a few bucks on many of the trinkets and widgets you buy for your home? Wal-Mart is the largest importer of goods from China in the world. Wal-Mart imports more goods from communist China than many nations. Aside from the fact that you are donating money to China's nuclear missile development program (since almost all of China's GNP is devoted to war machines), you are also encouraging that retailer to buy even fewer American products and are contributing the job drain by telling American manufacturers that if they pull their factories out of this country, make goods with slave labor in third world countries, that you will still buy them when they re-enter this country via NAFTA's tariff's free backdoor. If you shop at Wal-Mart, you are contributing the job drain, and may have even caused your own job to vanish.
3. Do you take the time to look for the MADE IN USA label on the goods you buy? Do you refuse to buy those goods--regardless how good of a value it is--when you see labels that tell you that fantastic buy was made in a slave labor sweat shop in some third world nation? DO YOU EVEN LOOK? If you don't look, the fact that you lost your job because your employer sent your factory overseas IS YOUR FAULT. Don't blame the president. HE BUYS AMERICAN-MADE GOODS.
4. And finally, IF YOU WANT TO BLAME A PRESIDENT (since we all know the political spinmeisters want you to believe the buck always stops in the Oval Office when in reality is generally stops in Congress--and we can't fire our Congressmen or Senators when they are bringing pork barrel fat back home), then you have to blame the president who signed NAFTA into law...and whose wife laughed about how stupid the American voters are for not catching on. That's Bill Clinton. And since Clinton is no longer in office, then you need to blame the Party that controlled Congress and worked that bill through and placed it on Clinton's desk for his signature. And, that Party is the Democrats who lost control of Congress FOR THAT REASON in the mid-term elections of 1994.
SO WHEN WE'RE POINTING POLITICAL FINGERS, let's make sure we are pointing our fingers in the right direction...and remember, we always have the thumb on that hand cocked back in our own faces. So let's get it right and stop blaming the person who has the misfortune of occupying the Oval Office at the moment the brown stuff starts hitting the fan. It only shows how uninformed we really are...or, as Hillary says, how stupid we are for believing the crap the Kerry campaign feeds us on paper plates with plastic spoons as they eat filet mignon on fine bone china with sterling silverware.
