TV Sex Tends to Increase Teen Sex

From an email:

**TV Sex Increases Teen Sex, Study Finds**

A study of American children age 12 to 17 has found that those who watch a lot of television with sexual content are about twice as likely to start having intercourse during the subsequent year as those with little such exposure, according to an Associated Press report earlier this month.

"Exposure to TV that included only talk about sex was associated with the same risks as exposure to TV depicting sexual behavior," said Rand Corp. behavioral scientists Rebecca Collins and her colleagues who conducted the study.

TV "sends the message that everybody's having sex and nobody's thinking about responsibility and nothing bad ever happens," Collins added.

The results of the study are based on scientific nationwide phone surveys of 1,792 teenagers queried in 2001 and again in 2002. The researchers obtained parental consent before the interviews.

The new study provides further confirmation of scientific studies by education professor Diane Levin, author of REMOTE CONTROL CHILDHOOD? COMBATING THE HAZARDS OF MEDIA CULTURE, and psychologists Dr. Victor Cline, Dr. Stanley Rachman and Dr. W. Marshall, who also have found that viewing sexual images in the media has led to increased sexual activity among children and teenagers and increased deviant behavior, including rape.

MOVIEGUIDEĀ® believes that the evidence against sexual content in movies, videos and television programs is now incontrovertible!

MOVIEGUIDEĀ® is working hard, on a limited budget, to encourage top decision makers and opinion leaders in Hollywood to reduce and eliminate the amount of sexual content in their movies, videos, and television programs. Our efforts have met with some success, but much more obviously needs to be done.

Unless more Americans make this topic an important issue, our children and grandchildren will continue to be assaulted by lewd, immoral sexual content in the media, which is a form of child sexual abuse.
