Unless the parties involved ask a government court for arbitration, there is absolutely no reason why the State should involve itself in the rite of marriage -- This includes issuance of licenses, condemnation of a particular type of marriage (including homosexual marriages) or legislation of different taxation policies for married individuals. All are unwarranted interference by the State into private lives.
