FLASH MESSAGE
From richslick@lycos.com:
1. Ownership. As CBS stonewalls their bogus story on Bush’s Texas ANG service, some have wondered how to put pressure on CBS or their parent corporation, Viacom to break that stonewall and start telling the truth about where the documents came from and who participated in the fraud. A long time friend and observer suggested that stock ownership holds the key to breaking this knot. Suppose that every reader of this column throughout its distribution buys a single share of Viacom stock. This will give you the right to show up at the annual stockholder’s meeting and speak to the Board of Directors – not unlike what Charlton Heston did to Time Warner years ago when he started reading rap song lyrics to the assembled stockholders. Viacom has taken care of their large owners for years and years and mostly ignored the small investors. If the stock ownership starts spreading out to reflect the interests and sensibilities of the general population, they can no longer ignore those people. In addition, when you own a single share of Viacom stock, you get to vote for Board members; get to see the annual and quarterly reports; and get to participate in the management of the corporation as an owner rather than as a customer. Communists participate in the world via boycotts and protest marches. Capitalists participate in the world via ownership, by driving the corporation where they want it to go. It is worth a try.
2. Connection. A week ago, former Jimmy Carter pollster Pat Caddell warned all who would listen that his party, the democrats had better not be implicated as part of the forged ANG memos used by CBS. As the week wore on, his fears were realized as more and more connections between the Kerry campaign, the DNC and CBS News were reported. The documents were faxed to CBS from a Kinkos near Abilene, Texas. The store is the closest one to a long-time Bush enemy and democrat operative Bill Burkett. The Kerry campaign last spring made references to the subject matter of the documents, meaning that they knew about them and what was contained in them. At the same time as the 60 Minutes story, Terry McAuliffe’s DNC started running their latest and greatest anti-Bush smear campaign, entitled “Fortunate Son.” The campaign was based on the so called facts contained in the forged memos CBS fronted. This means that the DNC knew the contents and subject matter of the memos beforehand, so they had the time and information available to build an anti-Bush ad campaign. CBS is also tied to Ben Barnes, the former Speaker of the Texas House via Barnes’ daughter who had Rather in town in 2001 for a democrat fundraiser. Barnes was used as a setup guy on CBS for the forged memos story. We have found the dots, and they have been connected.
3. Ridicule. One of the most effective and humiliating weapons in the political wars is humor. The CBS / Dan Rather / Forged memos story and the defense of their fraudulent actions by CBS, the Kerry Campaign and the DNC has opened a door to some superb humor. CBS’ logic is that it is irrelevant that the documents are forgeries and that their contents are faked. According to CBS, we are back to the old “seriousness of the charges” routine, and must investigate these fraudulent claims on President Bush. The humorists on the net have picked up this logic and run away with it, posting stories about Bush having an affair with Frank Sinatra (Kitty Kelley knock-off), cartoons about Bush being left on Earth by alien invaders with the story being carried on CBS. Ann Coulter even got into the act, writing a hilarious sarcastic column describing Kitty Kelly’s behavior as consistent with someone in advanced stages syphilis. Coulter proved it using precisely the same logic as CBS is using to smear Bush’s ANG service. The libs have reduced themselves to laughing stocks, which is not all that bad of a thing.
4. Stonewall. The other stonewall in evidence last week was being operated by democrat presidential nominee Monsieur John Kerry. Kerry has had a grand old time demanding that President Bush release all his ANG records since Bush signed the DD Form 180 ordering their release last Feb. Kerry claims that he has released all his records. Last week, in response to a Judicial Watch Freedom of Information Act request, the Navy said that 31-34 pages of Kerry’s military records were not released to the public because Kerry has not signed his DD 180. A growing number of military observers believe that those records have some combination of information about Kerry missing Naval Reserve meetings, unfavorable performance evaluations during his protest years in uniform, a possible less than honorable discharge, and citations for his awards written by John Kerry himself. The libs have gotten very good at accusing our side of doing things that they have been doing all along. With this in mind, it would not be a surprise if Kerry, who has been orchestrating the democrat and media bashing of Bush’s time flying F102s in the Texas ANG, is guilty of all the things he has been accusing Bush of having done 35 years ago. This also demonstrates the difference between the ways the Bush administration conducts government operations. The Clintons would have leaked Kerry’s records from the Pentagon a long, long time ago like Ken Bacon did to Linda Tripp in the late 1990s.
5. Marketplace. The marketplace is also having its say on CBS during the current festivities. CBS’ ratings have cratered nationwide in every single top media market with the exception of San Francisco. CBS Evening News trailed everything in NYC, behind even reruns of The Simpsons. There will be a tipping point out there somewhere, when Viacom will no longer be willing to write off Rather’s shenanigans and lost sales revenues from advertisers. We aren’t there yet, but it is coming.
6. Polls. While the Kerry campaign, the DNC, CBS and the leftist 527s continue on the latest round of Bush bashing, it appears that the electorate is going elsewhere. The national presidential race ranges from a dead heat (Pew and Harris) to a 55-42% Bush lead (CNN- Gallup). Bush has surged to leads in NJ, MN, MO, AZ, OH. He is within 6% in NY. Illinois may even be in play. Somewhere along the line, President Bush will start moving to cement his lead and expand his majority in the US Senate and House of Representatives. If the democrats win everything open this year (plus all the contested seats), they will hold a 53-46 majority in the Senate. If everything goes Republican, the number will reverse to a 57-42 majority in the US Senate. The opportunity exists to get the Senate off dead center and out of the obstructionist business.
7. Debates. The latest news on the debates has the campaigns arguing whether there will be two or three presidential debates. Clinton held his exposure to only two debates between him and Bob Dole, and a single debate between the VP candidates, so Bush will probably agree to three debates. Bill Weld, the former Republican Governor of MA warned Bush that Kerry will lie early and often during the debates. Kerry told lies of such proportions and obviousness that it rocked Weld back on his heels and took his breath away. Weld never recovered and ended up losing the election. FNC had some commentary last week that put Kerry in a real interesting corner for the debates. When the subject turns to Iraq, which it will, over 90% of Bush’s supporters agree with his Iraq policy and strategy, and he will say the expected. On the other hand, Kerry supporters are split, nearly 60-40% against the war. If Kerry comes out in support of military action in Iraq, he will alienate nearly 60% of his supporters. If he comes out strongly anti-war, he will alienate nearly 40% of his supporters. No matter what he says, he will drive someone away from voting for him.
8. Disappearing Act. Finally, we have the disappearing act now performed by John Edwards. He has all but dropped out of the daily coverage of the campaign, popping up on rare occasions to argue with Dick Cheney. Edwards may be making the rounds of trial lawyers fundraising for the campaign, with promises to obstruct tort reform if elected.
